Apple Cider Pulled Pork Sliders

Ingredients
 

  • 2-2.3 lbs pork shoulder bone in
  • 15 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 5 cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 8 whole peppercorns
  • 12 fl oz dry cider
  • 2 tablespoon orange juice fresh squeezed
  • 2 orange slices
  • 1 green apple sliced
  • 1 brown onion diced
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Gravy

  • 1.5 cups pork juices
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Sliders

  • purple cabbage finely sliced
  • green apple cut into matchsticks
  • ¼ cup fresh fennel finely sliced
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls

Instructions
 

Pork

  • Place pork, cider, brown sugar, spices, orange, apple, sugar and onion into a slow cooker.
  • Cook high for 4 hours, or low for 8 hours (note 1).
  • Once cooked, remove pork shoulder and shred using two forks.

Gravy

  • Place butter in a saucepan or skillet and melt
  • Add flour to the butter and mix to a paste (roux)
  • Add the pork juices
  • Stir over medium to high heat, until thickened and lumps have gone.

Sliders

  • Mix the pork with the gravy, season to taste
